Job Description
Duties : The Exports Division provides export inspection and certification services and
develops strategies to gain, improve or maintain market access for live animals
and reproductive material, and a wide range of food and inedible products of
animal origin. The division includes the Codex contact point that is
responsible for coordination and development of policy and technical input to
international food standards. The division also provides residue monitoring
services to Australian primary industries.
The Meat Exports Branch is responsible for national certification,
verification, audit and inspection requirements for the export of meat (red
meat, poultry and game meat). The Meat Exports Branch works in close
partnership with internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain
national certification systems to meet Australian and importing country
requirements. This includes oversight of national consistency in service
delivery, the development of operational policy and guidelines, instructional
material, technical training development & delivery, reporting and
engagement of industry and government stakeholders.
We currently have several Area Technical Manager positions available in our
team.
The Area Technical Manager (ATM) is responsible for the technical oversight of
a group of export registered slaughter and boning establishments, and the
technical supervision and mentoring of on-plant veterinary officers. ATMs will
be responsible for the implementation of the systems audit regime and will
conduct periodic audits in regional and remote establishments to underpin the
continued export market access for meat and meat products. A significant amount
of travel is required, both interstate and intrastate.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
1. Undertake systems audits of export registered slaughter and boning
establishments, as a Lead Auditor and member of an audit team.
2. Provide high level veterinary and technical advice and support to the
departmental field staff and export clients.
3. Manage, mentor and develop a group of on-plant veterinary officers.
4. Provide technical expertise in progressing reform and importing country
priorities as required.
5. Other duties as required.
Eligibility
Mandatory Qualifications
• A degree in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from an
Australian University, or other equivalent veterinary qualifications is
mandatory.
• Applicants must be eligible for registration as a Veterinary Surgeon by a
Veterinary Surgeons Board under the laws of an Australian State or Territory.
• Nationally recognised Food Safety Auditor qualifications are required.
Provision of training may be considered for applicants that do not currently
hold those qualifications. Additional high risk competency training will be
offered to the successful applicants as required.
• A current driver’s license is required.
